MOVE WITH OUR  FURRY FRIENDS: HOW TO MANAGE THEIR STRESS

Merci Roma takes care of you and your furry friends during your move.

We are sometimes forced, due to various reasons related to work and / or personal needs, to having to change our old home for a new home, taking away the effects we are most attached to, throwing away old things, getting more space in the new destination.

Without forgetting, of course, your four-legged friend, who will also be affected by this move.
Although we think that pets have a high ability to adapt to new environments, it is not always true. Every animal has its own needs and its own character, so it could live the moment of moving differently from another animal, or from how we hear about it or see it in movies.
For this reason, we must consider the characteristics and needs of domestic animals, without underestimating their adaptive abilities.

We at Merci Roma are respectful of your pet's needs
We report below some advices to make moving as little as possible a stressful moment for our pets.

MOVING WITH THE CATS: BEFORE AND AFTER

The cat, animal tied to the territory, will live the move as a real trauma, especially if grown in the old house, consolidating its habits: bowls, bed and bunk always remained in the usual place. In fact, a kitten is more prone to such a change than an adult cat. Even more "challenging" is the move of a cat that has become old.

You will certainly have chosen a reliable company that will take care of your move to the smallest details. But the Company itself will have to show respect for your feline friend and, above all, will not have to invade its spaces.

The advice of Merci Roma is as follows:
1.       To make live your cat the house change as something pleasant, you have to take it with you right away, you need to let him explore the areas where you previously sprayed specific pheromones, so that you can familiarize yourself with them. All in complete safety for the cat.
2.       Be careful of open windows or doors, as it may escape unnoticed.
3.       The noises, the disorder and the lack of furniture can create stress for the cat, so it is necessary to isolate it in a not used room, leaving it all the necessary (food, water, litter), while moving on to the other rooms. Better to keep something where the cat can hide, like a cardboard box open on one side.
4.       Carry the cat out of the house, placing it first in its carrier, in order to move the furniture in the room in which it was kept.

The cat will have a different behaviour, but in the first moments of adaptation it must not be left alone and must be reassured with cuddles and caresses.
Cats should never be forced after the transfer: they will explore with their times; the important thing is not to spare attention and moments of play. Don't worry if at first the cat prefers to fast: after the first few days, it will return to behave and feed itself as if there were no longer any difference between the old and the new home.

MOVING WITH DOGS: BEFORE AND AFTER

Even for dogs, although apparently more adaptable to changes, preventive measures must be taken to facilitate this important change.
We advise you to bring your dog with you from the first visits to the new house, even if it is still empty, or when you go to check how the renovations are proceeding. In this way your four-legged friend can begin to familiarize himself with the environment, to explore it and get to know it.
Start spending time with him in the new house, trying to associate this brief stay with something positive and fun, for example you can play with him or start giving him commands, such as "on the ground", "sitting", etc., rewarding him with a prize.
Guarantee peace of mind to your friend during the frantic moments of moving, entrusting it to people he knows or arranging it in a place in the house where there is not too much noise and confusion.
When the "worst" is over and everything or almost will be more or less in place, the dog may need some more time to get used to the new home. As for the cat, even the dog should not be forced to adapt, but you will have to have the right patience to accompany him in this transition phase.
Let them live in their new home, identifying a corner or a room where they can settle and find their kennel and their games while leaving them free to get to know the new environment.
